‘Click’ Photography club at Chuter Ede is great! We’ve learnt a range of different skills all to do with photography. There are lots of different ways to take a photo such as; macros (close-up), motion shots, portraits, long shutter speed for light trails and scenery photos. Mrs Allan (Year 5 teacher) and Mr Lile our photography teachers are great and they have taught us everything we know about it! Some of the other children have brought in their cameras to use in the club and some borrow school cameras. We really enjoyed ‘Click’ photography club and without it we wouldn’t have discovered our love for it!' By Katie Rastall and Hannah Ezard-Kay (Year 6 pupils) I started the after school photography club last year as photography is something I spend a lot of my spare time doing. I am a member of a Newark photography club and have photographed friend’s weddings and children’s portraits. I am passionate about photography and wanted to inspire and develop this interest in school. Initially the club was for the Year Six pupils and I planned and organised a program of weekly sessions to develop different skills and aspects of photography. I invited the children to bring in their own cameras and provided those children who didn’t have one, with a school camera. The club now runs for other year groups, currently Year Five. The sessions run for 1 ½ hours each Thursday night I the school’s ICT suite and we use free online photo-editing software to enhance and manipulate the images taken by the children, into themed collages and prints which we display on our school website and around school. We also produced a 2011 calendar to raise money for school funds! Each week we focus on a different skills/aspect of photography and after a 20 minute input the children are then given a task to complete around the school and grounds. The children then download and edit their images and feedback is given by myself and Mr Lile (ICT technician). At the end of each club session the children have an optional homework task, which follows on from what we have covered in that session. The children seem as passionate about photography as I am, it’s great to see them develop new skills and produce exciting digital artwork and images to share with others. Happy snapping! Mrs Allan
