Year 1

Year 1 is a fantastic year !!  Moving from Foundation towards working within the National Curriculum is an exciting and challenging experience for your child.   Each year we try to ensure that the subjects and topics we work on are engaging and offer lots of opportunities for progress in all areas of the curriculum. While we plan for the whole year at the beginning, we like to be able to respond to the childrens interests and major events, such as the Olympics and our yearly overview is always subject to change!

We teach maths and english every day and create lots of opportunities to bring learning in these areas through our topic work.  Creative play is still a vital element of the week to ensure a natural and appropriate transition from the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum to the National Curriculum.  The phonics scheme we use is 'Letters and Sounds.'

Good home/school links are a vital part of Year 1.  We encourage all children to read widely, develop a deep love of books and parents/carers are a key part of this.  We have an open door policy and encourage all parents/carers to contact us with any issues or concerns.
