This year we are taking part in a new community project with Newark Castle Rotary Club called ‘Mary’s Meals’.
This project provides daily meals in school for hungry children in some of the world’s poorest communities, who have suffered war, poverty, famine or natural disaster.
Part of Mary’s Meals is called the Backpack Project, which is a simple way of helping children in Malawi get the best out of school and receive an education. This is turn can offer them an escape from poverty.
The Rotary Club have visited school and spoken to the children in assembly about these amazing projects. As part of the project, we have received 40 empty backpacks for us to try and fill with basic educational and humanitarian items, which will then be sent to Malawi and distributed to children there.
As much or as little as you can donate will be gratefully received in school anytime from now until Friday 24th November 2017, when all that we have collected will be sent to the Rotary Club.
Items that can be included:
Notepads, pencils, pens, crayons, eraser, sharpener, ruler, pencil case, towel, shorts or skirts or t-shirt (under 12 years), flip flops or sandals, a small ball, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, spoon.
Unused school bags and PE bags can also be donated and recycled.

We look forward to receiving your items in school and thank you for your generosity.
