"Valuing everyone and aiming for our best"

Maths

This week we would like you to have a go at solving word problems!

The problems are about the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

To solve these first problems you will need to use the times table facts that you know or count up in 2’s, 5’s or 10’s. As always choose the level you think is best for you.

These next problems will need you to share things equally between a given number of people. To work these out you can

  • either use the division facts you know (linked to the times table facts)

For example if you know 4 x 5 = 20 then you know that 20 ÷ 5 = 4 or 20 ÷ 4 = 5

  • or you can share things equally by drawing picture to help you.

So, you draw the number of circles that you are dividing by (in this case 5) and then you draw a dot in each circle, counting as you go until you get to the number of objects that needs to be shared out (in this case 20.) You get your answer by counting how many dots are in one circle (in this case 4.)

Lastly, you may want to have a go at writing your own problems for other people to solve!!
