Spelling

Words ending in –le,-el or -il

This week we are going to look at the different spellings of the –le digraph used at the end of words.

For example

middle, tickle, apple, little, circle, table, giggle, puddle, camel, tunnel, towel, tinsel, parcel, angel, squirrel, label, pencil, fossil, nostril, stencil. Think about the fact that is makes the same sound but has different spellings (and some are unusual and not very common !)

Maybe you could make a list of words ending in this sound and sort them into lists according to their spelling of the sound.

There is also a game for you to play.
